Square Dance series
at the Rowan County Art Center

Swing your partner! Do Si Do! I've partnered with the Kentucky Center for Traditional Music at Morehead State University to organize and promote a series of community square dances held at the Rowan County Art Center.
One of the goals of the Kentucky Center for Traditional Music is to serve the Morehead community. Community dances like this bring people together, build friendships and build a stronger, more positive community through music and dance. Years ago, there used to be a monthly dance held in Morehead at the Carl Perkins Center. We wanted to revive this tradition and hold it closer to campus and involve more young people.
Our goal is to demonstrate that traditional Appalachian music and dance isn't just something you study in a dusty library; it is a living, vibrant tradition.

Appalachian Music Afterschool Program
at Haldeman Community Center

I've partnered with the Appalachian Studies department at Morehead State University and the Haldeman Community Center to teach traditional Appalachian music and dance once a week to a group of K thru 5th graders. We've played the mountain dulcimer together, written songs, make percussion instruments out of recycled materials, and square danced!
